What a try scuba dive is

A try scuba dive — also called a “discover scuba” or “Try Scuba” — is your very first dive, guided step by step by an instructor. It isn’t a course and doesn’t issue a full certification, but at the end you receive a certificate (diploma) for the try dive: it’s an experience designed to let you discover what it feels like to breathe and move underwater, in complete safety.

It’s the best way to find out whether diving is for you before signing up for a course: no commitment, just the wish to give it a go.

How it works, step by step

It starts on land with a short briefing: how breathing through the regulator works, a few simple safety rules and how to communicate underwater. Then you get in the water.

The try dive takes place in our heated pool in EUR, in shallow, controlled water: the ideal setting to get comfortable at your own pace. The instructor stays right beside you, one to one, the whole time — guiding you through your first breaths and first movements, with no rush.

What you need (not much!)

All you need is a swimsuit and the wish to try. All the equipment — mask, wetsuit, tank, regulator, BCD — is provided by us. No experience is required and you don’t need to be a competitive swimmer: it’s enough to feel comfortable in the water.

How long it lasts and how much it costs

A try dive usually lasts about an hour, including preparation and time in the water. It’s a calm, gradual experience, suitable for teenagers and adults.

At Top One Diving the first pool try is free: it’s our way of welcoming you into the world of diving, with no cost and no commitment.

After the try dive: if it grabs you

If the thrill wins you over — and it often does — the next step is the Open Water Diver certification, which qualifies you to dive independently down to 18 metres anywhere in the world. From there the adventure continues with advanced courses, specialties and sea outings with our community.
