Basic courses are your gateway to the underwater world. It all starts with an introductory dive in the pool — your first breath underwater, with no experience and no commitment — and leads to the Open Water Diver, the international certification that qualifies you to dive independently to a depth of 18 metres anywhere in the world. In Rome the practical lessons take place in the pool and along the Lazio coast, always in small groups guided by an instructor.

You don’t need any particular skills: all it takes is feeling comfortable in the water and being keen to give it a try. The theory is flexible (available online too, with the SSI app), the equipment to get you started is provided on hire, and we guide you every step of the way, from your first dive to your certification.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I start?

With a free introductory dive in the pool, or directly with the Open Water Diver course. If you’ve never tried it, the pool session is the easiest, no-commitment way to find out whether diving is for you.

Do I need experience or equipment?

No: the basic courses start from scratch and the equipment is provided on hire. All you need is to be able to swim and feel comfortable in the water.
